Furlong Crescent

The Furlong Crescent project involved a comprehensive exterior repaint of a two-storey family home that had suffered significant UV damage and fading over the years. Located in an elevated position with extensive sun exposure, the property required careful colour selection to minimise future fading whilst maintaining kerb appeal.

Access proved challenging due to the steep section and multiple roof levels, requiring specialised scaffolding and safety equipment. Getting the scaffold right on a property like this isn't just a convenience — it's what separates a rushed job from a proper one. Our team spent time planning the scaffold layout so every surface could be reached safely and painted without awkward stretching or missed spots.

Our experienced team methodically prepared each surface, removing loose paint, filling cracks, and treating areas affected by mould growth. Mould in sheltered eave areas was treated with a biocide wash before priming, not just painted over — a shortcut that causes new paint to fail within months. We applied Dulux Weathershield exterior paint system, specifically chosen for its superior UV resistance and self-cleaning properties. The preparation included one coat of Dulux Weathershield All Weather primer followed by two coats of premium topcoat in a contemporary colour palette.

The Dulux Weathershield system's Dirt Guard technology means the surface actually sheds grime with rain rather than collecting it — an important quality on a north-facing elevation in Wellington where summer UV is intense. The homeowners chose a warm, contemporary palette with a darker body colour and crisp white trims, a combination that suits the two-storey proportions well and reads strongly from the street.

On the upper storey, we used roller and brush rather than spray application to maintain control in Wellington's unpredictable wind conditions. Spray can deliver excellent results in controlled conditions, but on an exposed elevated site, brush-and-roll ensures paint goes where it's meant to go without drift or thin coverage.
