The Reece Plumbing commercial plastering project was part of a major fitout for this national plumbing supplies retailer. The scope involved extensive plasterboard installation and finishing to create new internal walls, partition spaces, and prepare all surfaces for painting in their new Wellington showroom. Working to tight construction timelines, our team coordinated with other trades to complete the plastering work on schedule whilst maintaining the high finish standards required for a premium retail environment.
Commercial fitout plastering operates under a completely different set of pressures from residential work. On a retail fitout, your completion date directly affects the store's opening date, which in turn affects revenue forecasts and lease commitments. There's no flexibility in the programme — you need to deliver on time and at the right quality level, because both the painters and the joinery installers are waiting on your handover. We built a clear schedule with the fitout manager at the outset and kept to it.
We installed and finished hundreds of square metres of plasterboard, including standard walls, bulkheads, and feature elements designed to showcase products and create an attractive retail space. All joints were taped and stopped to achieve seamless finishes, with particular attention paid to corners, reveals, and junctions with other materials. Internal corners in a retail environment need to be sharp and precise — soft or inconsistent corners are immediately visible in a well-lit showroom. We used aluminium corner bead throughout to ensure those edges stayed crisp. Multiple coats of compound were applied and sanded to create perfectly smooth, flat surfaces ready for the painting team.
The work required constant coordination with electricians, who were running conduit through the same stud walls we were lining. We flagged all service penetrations through plasterboard and made sure every box and conduit entry was cleanly finished before stopping so the electrical team could terminate their work without needing to cut into fresh stopping. That kind of coordination between trades is what keeps a fitout moving rather than stalling at every handover point.
The project was completed on time, allowing the fitout to progress as scheduled. The retail space now features perfectly finished walls and ceilings that provide an ideal backdrop for Reece's product displays.
