The Kapiti Day Hospital project demanded exceptional attention to health and safety protocols whilst working within an operational medical facility. Our team coordinated closely with hospital management to schedule work during off-peak hours, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care and medical services. All work was conducted using low-VOC, quick-drying paint systems to maintain air quality standards essential in healthcare environments.

Working in a live healthcare environment requires a different mindset from a standard commercial project. Every morning before starting, we briefed the on-duty coordinator, confirmed which areas were available, and confirmed our exit routes in case of emergencies. Tools, equipment, and drop sheets were staged carefully to keep corridors clear at all times. These aren't extraordinary measures in a hospital — they're baseline professional conduct that the facility management rightly expected from us.

The scope included repainting consultation rooms, waiting areas, corridors, and administrative offices. We used Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, specifically formulated for healthcare applications with its anti-bacterial properties and easy-clean surface. Each area required different approaches: high-traffic corridors received additional primer coats for durability, whilst consultation rooms were finished with calming, neutral colours chosen in consultation with the hospital's design team. Patients with respiratory sensitivities, surgical patients, and staff spending eight-hour shifts in the building all benefit from minimal off-gassing.
