Reece Plumbing Lower Hutt

Following our plastering work, we completed the interior painting for Reece Plumbing's Lower Hutt showroom, transforming freshly plastered surfaces into a polished, professional retail environment. The project required completing all painting within a tight timeframe to meet the store's opening deadline, whilst maintaining the high-quality finish expected in a premium retail space. Our team worked extended hours and coordinated carefully with other fitout contractors to ensure timely completion.

Painting fresh plaster is a particular technical challenge that not all commercial painters handle correctly. New plaster is highly alkaline and absorbent — apply the wrong sealer and you get uneven sheen, patchy coverage, and colour variation that becomes more obvious as the space fills with product displays and lighting. We used a purpose-formulated plasterboard sealer on all freshly stopped surfaces, allowing it to cure fully before applying the paint system. The extra step adds time but eliminates the sheen variation problems that can require expensive remedial work later.

The painting scope included all walls, ceilings, and architectural features throughout the showroom, trade counter area, offices, and staff facilities. We used commercial-grade Dulux paint systems selected for durability and easy maintenance in a high-traffic retail environment. The colour scheme was specified by Reece's design team, featuring their corporate colours in key areas with neutral tones throughout. All surfaces received comprehensive preparation including sanding, dust removal, and priming where necessary. We applied two coats of premium paint to all surfaces, with additional coats in high-traffic areas and on feature walls to ensure perfect colour depth and coverage.

The trade counter area required extra durability consideration. Customers lean against the counter, rest products on the surrounding surfaces, and the area sees more physical contact than a standard retail floor. We applied a semi-gloss finish to the counter surrounds rather than the low-sheen used throughout the showroom — the harder sheen level resists abrasion and wipes down easily, which is important in a plumbing supplies environment where dirty hands and dusty packaging are part of normal operations.

The completed showroom met all quality expectations and was delivered on schedule, allowing Reece to open as planned. The space now provides an attractive, professional environment for customers whilst the durable paint system ensures easy maintenance and longevity.
