Lohia Street, Khandallah

This beautiful Khandallah home underwent a complete interior transformation, with the homeowners seeking a modern, sophisticated finish throughout their living spaces. The project encompassed all bedrooms, living areas, kitchen, bathrooms, and hallways — essentially every interior surface of this spacious family home. The existing colour scheme was dated, and some walls showed signs of age with minor cracks and imperfections that needed addressing.

Khandallah homes from this era often have plaster walls beneath decades of paint, and older plaster can develop fine cracks and surface inconsistencies that show through new paint if you don't prepare properly. We took a systematic room-by-room approach, filling cracks with setting compound, feathering the edges until flush, then lightly sanding the entire wall surface before priming. Rushing this stage is the single biggest cause of a paint job that looks disappointing the moment the light catches the wall at an angle.

Our preparation work was meticulous, involving filling and sanding all imperfections, applying undercoat where necessary, and ensuring every surface was perfectly smooth before topcoats. We used Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen throughout, selected for its exceptional coverage and durability. The homeowners worked with our colour consultant to create a cohesive palette of warm neutrals with feature walls in select areas. The kitchen and bathrooms received additional coats of Resene Kitchen and Bathroom paint, formulated to resist moisture and maintain their appearance in high-humidity environments.

One of the most satisfying aspects of this project was helping the family make confident colour decisions. They'd been living with the same tired palette for years and weren't sure what to choose. We brought sample pots and tested four shortlisted colours on large pieces of card in each room, observing how the colours shifted under natural morning light versus the warm artificial light used in the evenings. The final palette — a warm greige for living areas, a deeper tone for the main bedroom feature wall, and a soft white throughout — works beautifully in every room.

The result is a beautifully refreshed home that feels light, spacious, and modern.
