Lohia Street Plastering

This Lohia Street project involved extensive interior plastering work to repair damaged walls and create perfectly smooth surfaces ready for painting. The homeowners were undertaking a comprehensive renovation and needed professional plastering to address old crack repairs, uneven surfaces, and areas where previous DIY attempts had resulted in poor finishes. The scope included repairs to multiple rooms, with some walls requiring complete re-skimming to achieve the smooth, modern finish desired.

DIY plaster repairs are one of the most common sources of frustration on renovation projects. The technique looks simple but the execution — particularly feathering repairs seamlessly into surrounding surfaces — takes practice to get right. On this project, we encountered several walls where previous patch repairs had been applied with edges that stood slightly proud of the surrounding plaster. Those ridges are invisible until you roll paint across the wall, at which point they cast a shadow in any directional light. Our job was to flatten the entire surface to a consistent plane before the painters arrived.

Our experienced plasterers assessed each surface carefully, determining the most appropriate repair method for different conditions. Some areas required only patching and sanding, whilst others needed complete skim coating to level uneven surfaces. We used premium plaster products appropriate for each application, carefully feathering repairs into surrounding areas to create seamless transitions. On walls with multiple previous repairs at different depths, we applied the skim coat in two passes — a scratch coat to level the worst inconsistencies, followed by a finish coat once the first had cured — rather than trying to build depth in a single application, which risks shrinkage cracking.

Once dried, all surfaces were thoroughly sanded to achieve perfectly smooth finishes free from ridges or imperfections. Plastering and painting are often treated as separate trades with a hard handover, but on this project we communicated directly with the painters about which surfaces had received full skim coats versus spot repairs, so they could apply their sealer coat accordingly and avoid sheen variation in the final paint.

The homeowners were impressed with the transformation from rough, damaged walls to smooth, pristine surfaces ready for decoration. Quality plastering is the foundation of any excellent paint finish, and this project demonstrates the importance of proper surface preparation. Our plastering services are available as standalone projects or as part of comprehensive renovation work. Contact us to discuss your plastering needs and ensure professional results.
