Oriel Avenue

The Oriel Avenue project began with comprehensive colour consultation, as the homeowners wanted to move away from their dated colour scheme whilst ensuring the new palette would complement their home's style and the neighbourhood aesthetic. Our colour consultant worked closely with them to select a sophisticated scheme that transformed the property's appearance whilst respecting its architectural heritage.

Oriel Avenue sits in a part of Wellington where the houses have strong character and the streetscape is cohesive — choosing a colour that lifts the home without jarring with its neighbours required some consideration. We looked at the street from both directions, noted the dominant tones, and from there worked with the homeowners to find a palette that would feel fresh and individual without being out of place. We also tested the shortlisted colours under the specific lighting conditions on this property — the trees to the north filter the afternoon sun and create a slightly cooler reading than you'd expect, which mattered when selecting the trim colour.

The weatherboard home required thorough preparation to address years of weathering and minor paint failure in exposed areas. We completed a full water-blast, followed by hand-scraping and sanding where necessary, treating exposed timber, and filling all gaps and cracks with premium exterior filler. The application included Resene Quick Dry primer on prepared areas, followed by two full coats of Resene Lumbersider in the chosen colour palette. Particular attention was paid to proper preparation and painting of window joinery, fascias, and decorative elements where precision work makes a significant visual difference.

Resene Lumbersider's formulation is well-suited to weatherboard homes that have been repainted multiple times. Its excellent obliteration means you can achieve a clean colour in two coats over a sound but chalked or faded existing surface, without the colour from beneath showing through. On this project, where the previous colour was considerably lighter than the new choice, that quality was particularly important to achieving a deep, even result.

The transformation exceeded the homeowners' expectations, with the new colour scheme dramatically enhancing their home's kerb appeal and the quality paint system ensuring long-lasting protection. They particularly appreciated our attention to detail and the professional finish achieved throughout.
