The Wise Street project centred on transforming this family home's dated colour scheme into a fresh, contemporary palette that would appeal to modern tastes whilst maintaining neighbourhood harmony. The existing paint system was still in reasonable condition but the colours had become unfashionable, prompting the homeowners to seek a complete colour refresh that would revitalise their property's kerb appeal.

A colour refresh on a structurally sound home is one of the most satisfying jobs we do — when the prep time is reduced because the existing surface is stable, you can invest more effort in colour accuracy, clean lines, and a flawless topcoat result. The homeowners were initially unsure whether painting over their existing colour would require extra coats to achieve full coverage, so we helped them understand that the right tinted undercoat does the heavy lifting and allows a standard two-coat system to deliver excellent depth of colour.

Working with our colour consultant, the homeowners selected a sophisticated modern palette featuring complementary tones that highlight their home's architectural features. Because the existing paint was in good condition, we could focus preparation efforts on minor repairs, filling small cracks, and light sanding to create an ideal surface for the new colour. We used Resene Lumbersider paint system, applying one coat of tinted undercoat followed by two coats of premium topcoat in the selected colours. The painting sequence was carefully planned to achieve crisp, professional colour breaks where different tones meet.

Getting the colour breaks right was important on this project. The home has a defined trim schedule — barge boards, fascias, window frames, and veranda posts all painted in a lighter complementary tone — and achieving clean transitions between body colour and trim on a weatherboard surface requires brushwork rather than masking in many locations.
